People hear the word "gifted" and often imagine a child who races ahead and succeeds effortless. In reality, giftedness often comes with unique challenges.

At Mindful Therapy Doctors, LLC we work with families to better understand both a child's strengths and struggles at home and in school.

Here are some things to keep in mind if you suspect your child may be gifted:

Varying areas of development

Gifted children may be advanced in one area, such as math or reading, yet still developing social and emotional skills at their age level. This can cause frustration, isolation, and conflict.

Emotional Sensitivity

Gifted children interpret the world intensely. They may feel strong emotions, become easily overwhelmed, or struggle with perfectionism.

Boredom

Gifted children need to be challenged. Without stimulation they may appear inattentive, restless, or even disruptive. What may look like misbehavior may also need a sign that they need more stimulation.

Overlap with other conditions

Giftedness can sometimes mask ADHD, learning differences, or even anxiety

Giftedness is a strength. It doesn't mean your child won't need help. With understanding, strategies, and expert support children can feel challenged and supported while meeting their potential.
